Level 1 / Apprentice Technician Job Description – BAM! Automotive
Level 1 / Apprentice Technician at BAM! Automotive is an individual currently enrolled in, or graduated from, an automotive repair training program. While prior experience is preferred, it is not required. The Level 1 Technician will begin by performing light-duty service and maintenance tasks while assisting around the shop with everyday operations. On-the-job training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Oil changes and tire rotations
- Tire service (mount, balance, and repair)
- Hoist maintenance
- Shop floor cleaning and general maintenance
- Emptying waste and recycling baskets
- Driving as needed
Promotion Requirements & Advanced Responsibilities
Before a Level 1 Technician can be promoted, they must demonstrate the ability to perform the following tasks consistently and accurately. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Brake system inspection and diagnosis
- Performing alignments and alignment checks
- Completing Digital Vehicle Inspections (DVIs)
- Inspecting and diagnosing steering and suspension systems
- Basic electrical system testing (starting and charging systems, simple circuits).
- Exhaust system replacement
- Vehicle maintenance – proficient in flushing and changing all fluids and filters as part of routine maintenance
Certifications & Development
Level 1 Technician has passed the ASE Certification exams A4, A5, G1, and X1. While completion of these exams is not a condition of employment, successful completion will be required to progress through the pay scale and advance within the technician ranks at BAM! Automotive.
Work Environment
This position involves hands-on work in a collaborative, team-oriented shop environment. Level 1 Technicians will receive mentorship and ongoing training opportunities to develop their technical expertise and grow within BAM! Automotive’s career ladder.
